T1
Signaling
Along
with the standard T1 functionality, ShivOS also supports
Fractional T1.
Fractional
T1
ShivOS
supports channelized fractional T1. Fractional T1 allows
users who do not need the total number of channels offered
by a full T1/E1 line (24 channels in North America or 30
channels in the rest of the world) to select the number
of channels they require, thereby saving money by not having
to spend it on unused bandwidth.
Upon
initializing your Shivaź device, an administrator can enable
and disable specific DS0 channels on a T1 line. Any channels
that have been disabled remain disabled until the next time
the device's configuration has been modified and the device
has been rebooted.
Note: The administrator must configure the DS0 channels
to "match" the DS0 channels provided by the central office.
If the channels do not match exactly, numerous failed calls
will result
The D channel and the Sync channel cannot be disabled. For
example, in North America, channel number 24 is the D channel;
it cannot be disabled in a user interface. Likewise, channels
1 (the Sync channel) and 17 (the D channel) on 30-channel
T1-lines cannot be disabled.
